New Delhi: Central Vigilance Commission is observing Vigilance Awareness Week from October 26 to 31, 2015. President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday insisted the country to endorse the India corruption free campaign and proactively participate in it.

President Mukherjee wrote to the Central Vigilance Commissioner stating, "I am happy to learn that the Central Vigilance Commission is observing Vigilance Awareness Week from October 26 to 31, 2015. Corruption affects the growth of a nation, reduces the Government's income and creates inequalities in distribution of income and wealth. It is a major factor hindering development."

Corruption is an issue of prime importance in today's developing India. If India wants to digitize itself and achieve the status of a developed nation, it has to first abandon corruption.

This awareness program is expected to generate public opinion to reduce the evil of corruption.

The President added, "Corruption needs to be treated like a disease and focus should be on prevention. It is appropriate that the Commission has adopted the theme of "Preventive Vigilance as a tool of Good Governance."

The accomplishment of preventive vigilance is going to bring a large scale change in India. With corruption expected to be subsided with such efforts, it is also going to contribute to good governance by increasing better law enforcement, transparency and efficiency.

The Vigilance Commission is concentrating to generate major awareness among the students and youth for building a society aware of corruption and how it can stopped.
