HAM leader Shakuni Choudhary quits politics

Patna: Shakuni Choudhary on Friday resigned as the Bihar president of HAM and quit politics after his party won only one seat in the assembly elections.

"I have resigned from the post of the state president of the Hindustani Awam Morcha and have decided to retire from active politics," he told the media here.

Choudhary said he was upset over the party's electoral showing in the Bihar assembly polls in which HAM contested 20 seats but won only one.

He is the first leader to resign after the rout of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance at the hands of the Grand Alliance led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The party's sole victor was former chief minister and party chief Jitan Ram Manjhi. He won from Imamganj in Gaya, his home district. Choudhary also lost the electoral battle.
