Ahmedabad: Bhartiya Janata Party won all six municipal corporations in Gujarat civic body elections. Congress also had a satisfactory result winning 20 zila panchayats out of 31.

Hardik Patel proved a non-factor against all the expectations. BJP managed a win even in his homeward.

This election result was important for Anandi Patel. This was the first election after Modi era in the state where BJP dominated completely.

Gujarat had turned into BJP's strong zone over the years but Patel agitation earlier this year had seemed to break into BJP's power. This win will provide some relief to BJP.

Congress' rise, especially in the rural area, is also an important event. Last time they managed to win just one zila panchayat whereas the number went up to 20 this year.

Gujarat has assembly polls in 2017 and a setback there will impact BJP and its chances of regaining power in the center in 2019. Both Congress and BJP have realized the importance of Gujarat as it is the state that made Modi, the Modi.

BJP after losing in Bihar would be happy to see the win again though they also must be sensing that it is only going to get tougher from here.

It is little too early to read into these result, but it will create the background for coming time.

Both parties celebrated and claimed to have won the battle. Which party gained more out of it, only time will tell.
