New Delhi: In a major move, the Mumbai Police slashed the security of Bollywood celebs on Friday. Security of at least 25 Bollywood celebrities was downgraded.

Senior officials confirmed that the security was trimmed to nix the "unwanted" security cover.

Earlier, Bollywood stars were seen very less in public. They were seen only in special programs, but with marketing becoming a must for movies, celebs were seen frequenting common places.

Notably, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan were always seen enveloped in tight security blankets.

However, controversial comments by the Bollywood Khans compelled the administration to beef up the security. But after assessment review, the officials pointed that the celebrities do not have any further threat and so their security were slashed.

But 15 celebrities would enjoy tight security due to genuine threat perception.

Security of at least 25 celebrities including director and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, director Raj Kumar Hirani, and director Farah Khan were withdrawn.

The rest 15 Bollywood celebrities who would still be under security cover include Akshay Kumar and producers Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt.

Notably, Akshay Kumar received coercion calls from the underworld following the release of his movies Khiladi 786 and Oh My God.

The Bhatt brothers also received threat calls from the underworld and the terror outfits.

However, iconic figures like Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar will enjoy the round the clock security, said police.(Inputs from agencies)
