Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has waived the tax on Bollywood movie 'Bajirao Mastani' after Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadavand his family watched the movie on Sunday night and was "impressed" by it.

The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film was praised by critics and did well at the box office.

In the 16th century India, undefeated warrior Bajirao was bestowed with the title of Prime Minister and became the greatest weapon of his Empire.

Notably, Ranveer Singh who essays the role of Bajirao who performed at the Saifai Mahotsava earlier this year had requested Akhilesh to "find time" to watch the flick.

The movie recently bagged the popular Filmfare awards.

However, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus had earlier irked BJP activists in Maharashtra. The BJP cadres staged protest programmes forcing multiplex cinema halls to scrap screening

The depiction of the character of Kashibai, played by actress Priyanka Chopra, in 'Bajirao Mastani' drew flak as many claimed that the film distorted facts. (IANS)
