New Delhi: A lawyer from Bihar, Indradev Prasad filed a petition in Hindi in the Supreme Court and the court has decided to hear the plea in Hindi after hearing his points.

In India, all the official work in the Court takes place in The English language. This will be the first time when a prosecution debate will take place in the Hindi language in the Supreme Court.

On 21st January, Indradev had filed a petition against the Patna High Court's order. The petition was in Hindi and the Registrar office of Supreme Court asked him to translate into English but he declined to do that.

The Supreme Court while praised it but said because of article 348 in the constitution, it cannot do anything about it. But Indradev Prasad did not give up.

He reminded the registrar office the article 300, 351 and the fundamental rights mentioned in article 13 and 19 to say that the Hindi cannot be treated inequally.

The registrar office had to back down and allow the hearing to take place in Hindi.

Indrade Prasad always fights his cases and arguments in Hindi only in Patna High Court but being able to do the same thing in the Supreme Court is an achievement and an encouraging move for the Indian languages.

Time has come that Indians get out of this colonial hangover and start using their mother tongue with Pride.(Inputs from agencies)
