Stolen Indian antiquities resurface in foreign countries

It has been reported that a total of 101 antiquities have been stolen from Centrally Protected Monument since 2000 .These stolen antiquities have resurfaced in foreign territories. Further 48 objects have been stolen from various temples in the state , which were not under the protection of Archaeological Survey of India. As per records 7 of the total 48 have resurfaced in foreign countries.
According to the Consulate General of India, New York a staggering total of 712 art objects has been seized by US Immigration and Customs Information including objects of Indian origin.A case has been registered by the CBI in connection with all Indian antiquities stolen and sold overseas from 2000 to 2016 .

For the retrieval of the stolen objects surfacing in foreign countries many missions have been undertaken. Consulate General of India, New York has already taken up the matter with US Immigration and Customs Information.
Economic Offences Unit-VI of Central Bureau of Investigation deals with offences related to antiquity. Government of Tamil Nadu has also set up Idol Wing CID for the purpose.
Our ministry of culture has set up a national mission and antiquities for the documentation of antiques . Till 2016 a staggering total of 15 lakh artefacts has been registered.
