A man recently released on interim bail in a rape case allegedly shot the victim on 30 July 2025; she had filed the case against him last year, in 2024. The victim, who works as Salon manager was travelling home from work in a rickshaw when she was shot in the chest by two men riding a black motorcycle in South West Delhi’s Vasant Vihar. She was immediately taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre in a PCR van and is reported to be in stable condition.

A call was made to the Police Control Room (PCR) at around 9:49 PM on 30 July, reporting a shooting near the Poorvi Marg red light. When the police reached the scene, they found an abandoned rickshaw. The driver of the rickshaw informed them that his passenger had been shot and was taken to the hospital in a PCR van.

The police stated, “The driver, Ranjeet Yadav, informed us that a woman passenger had suffered a gunshot injury and had been taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre by a PCR van.”

After being admitted to the hospital, the victim told the police that she was on her way home from work in a rickshaw and was speaking on the phone when she was attacked. “Two persons on a motorcycle approached from behind. One of them, Abuzair Safi, who was driving, fired a shot that struck her in the chest,” stated DCP (South West) Amit Goel.

The suspects have been identified as 30-year-old Abuzair Safi from Okhla Vihar and his accomplice Aman Shukla from Tughlakabad Extension. Both have been charged with attempted murder.

A case has been filed against Safi and Shukla under Sections 109(1) (attempted murder) and 3(5) (common intent) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act, based on the victim's statement. DCP Goel noted that the woman who was shot is the same complainant in an earlier rape case.

He said, “It is noteworthy that the victim is also the complainant in a rape case registered at Malviya Nagar police station.” He further added that any possible connection between the two registered cases is still under investigation.

DCP Goel also shared that the accused were identified through social media tracking and CCTV analysis. “Through meticulous CCTV analysis, social media tracking, and technical surveillance, the accused were identified,” he said.

The senior police officer said that during the interrogation Safi revealed that he was angry at the woman for registering a police complaint against him and “he had tried to contact her multiple times, but she refused to respond, which further aggravated his anger”

Aman Shukla, Safi’s accomplice in the crime, was arrested on Thursday, 31 July 2025. His motorcycle was seized during the investigation. Abuzair Safi was also arrested on 1 August, and the weapon used in the attack—a country-made pistol—was recovered by the police on the same day. [Rh/VS]
