Swacch Bharat: All government schools to have toilets within a year

Union Human Resource Development Minister, Smriti Irani told the lower house of Parliament today of the launching of Swachh Vidyalaya Programme by her ministry.

The program, which is under the Swacch Bharat Mission, has been formed with an objective of constructing separate toilets for boys and girls in all government schools within one year. Under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan 88,728 toilets have been sanctioned in 2014-15 and an additional 1.58 lakh, along with dysfunctional ones have been taken up by Public Sector Undertakings/Corporates for construction or repairs.

A sum of Rs. 56.51crore has been allocated from the Swachh Bharat Kosh for the same.
