Christine Lagarde, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director, who is visiting India for two days, said that India can be the world`s fastest growing economy if it opens up further to the world and implements planned reforms properly.

"Wonderful to be back in vibrant India – poised to become world's fastest growing large economy," Lagarde tweeted today, during her first day of the visit.

"India is indeed a bright spot in the global economy, and economic developments hold much promise. I believe India has an opportunity to become one of the world's most dynamic economy, and my message during my visit here will be: seize it!," Lagarde told an English daily.

The IMF chief is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, among other important people during her visit. She will also be delivering a speech at Delhi`s Lady Sri Ram College and atend a public event hosted by the central bank in Mumbai.

IMF predicted India`s growth in this fiscal to be 7.25 per cent, which is expected to rise up to 7.5 next year.
