Politics in India has plunged into abysmal depths, with the politicians passing snide remarks about one another. Amrinder Singh Raja Warring's, the President of the Indian Youth Congress, recent tweet about HRD Minister Smriti Irani is an example of the ungentlemanly behavior of the Indian politicians. In the tweet, Singh has asked Smriti Irani, in the most insulting tone, how in a short span of time, she has been able to reach a top position in Bhartiya Janta Party? The tweet reads as:

#SmritiIrani " क्या है तेरी कहानी ? जो तु बन बैठी इतनी जल्दी #BJP की महारानी , क्या कला दिखाई जो मोदी हुए दिवाने – तु सुनादे तेरी ज़ुबानी। " ( Smriti Irani- What is your story, that in such a short time you have become the queen of BJP. What skills you have shown to Narendra Modi, Please tell it in your own words).

It's a matter of grave ignominy that the politicians, holding such prestigious positions in the government, use such offensive words. It clearly indicates that the standard of Indian politics has become abysmally low.

This is not the first time that the politicians have divulged into the character assassination of their fellow female workers.

Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam had earlier said to BJP MP Smriti Irani, "It's only four days of your entry into politics and you have become a political analyst. Aap toh TV pe thumke lagati thi, aaj chunavi vishleshak ban gayi ( You used to dance on TV and now you have become a political analyst)".

Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh in a comment praised Meenakshi Natrajan and then passed offensive remarks about her. He had said, "Our party MP, Meenakshi Natrajan, is a Gandhian, simple and an honest leader. She keeps going from place to place in her constituency. I am a seasoned smith of politics. Meenakshi sau tunch maal hai."

Today where the safety of women has become one of the most torrid issue for the nation, such snide remarks about women coming from our politicians give us a setback. The situation is much worsened by the fact that these leaders get away from their misconduct with just a mere apology. It's high time that severe actions should be taken against the leaders who wallow in the luxury of their political position.
