On June 15, the Supreme Court had cancelled the All India Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT) 2015, on grounds of being suspicious. This verdict came in view of large-scale cheating in the test, with students getting answers in the examination hall at many places, and had affected approximately 6.3 lakh students. In addition, the SC ordered the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to reconduct the test within four weeks.

On Thursday, June 18, CBSE told SC that it was impossible to re-conduct the test in the given span. They asked for at least three months to take a fresh test, as they are already overburdened with the work of conducting seven other examinations. The court has agreed to hear the plea tomorrow.

Earlier, CBSE Public Relations Officer (PRO) Rama Sharma had told a newspaper that the board is discussing and deliberating the matter and will come out with an official statement later. A vacation bench of Justice RK Agrawal and Justice Amitava Roy also expressed their views in this case. According to them, the redo of the examination will consume time and cause inconvenience, but to maintain the credibility of the examination it has to be done.

The court further said that even if one student was benefiting illegally, the examination stands vitiated. The CBSE, however, had opposed cancellation of the test, saying, "6.3 lakh students cannot be made to take the exam afresh when only 44 students have been found involved in taking benefits through unfair means." The CBSE was to declare the results of the test, taken by over six lakh students, on June 5.

The Haryana Police was asked to file a fresh report indicating the number of beneficiaries of the alleged irregularities in the examination by the vacation bench.
