Srinagar: At least five infiltrating guerrillas and a soldier were killed overnight near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of Baramulla district where the army said it foiled a major infiltration bid.

"Alert troops noticed suspicious movement on our side of the LoC yesterday (Friday). Upon being challenged, a group of heavily armed terrorists started firing at the troops, triggering an encounter in which one terrorist was killed yesterday and a soldier sustained a minor injury.

"Late last evening, four more terrorists were killed while we also lost one of our boys.

"It appears the group managed to sneak into our side of the LoC, but they were engaged in time to foil the infiltration bid", a senior army officer told a media outlet.

The officer said that due to difficult terrain, the recovery of the slain guerrillas' bodies was taking time.

The officer also said some of the guerrillas in the intruding group might have fled back after their infiltration attempt was foiled by the army. (IANS)
