Srinagar: Amarnath Yatra was halted on Friday from both the south Kashmir Pahalgam and north Kashmir Baltal routes in Jammu and Kashmir due to bad weather.

"It is raining heavily around the cave shrine and all along the mountain track both from the Baltal base camp and the Pahalgam base camp since early morning. For the safety of the Yatris we have halted the Yatra from the two base camps towards the cave shrine today (Friday) morning.

"A decision on resumption of the Yatra will be taken when the weather improves," a senior official told IANS in summer capital Srinagar.

The official also said that till Thursday, over one lakh devotees have performed the Yatra and had 'darshan' of the Holy Lingam inside the cave shrine. (IANS)
