Kolkata: Ten passengers travelling in a suburban train near Kolkata were injured when the ladder of common starter signal at a station got bent and came down the up suburban line on Tuesday, a railway official said.

"The incident happened in the Ranaghat bound Sealdah local when the train was leaving Titagarh station. The ladder somehow got bent and infringed the line causing injuries to the passengers," said Eastern Railway's divisional manager (Sealdah) Jaya Singh Verma.

All the injured were taken to the B.N. Bose Hospital at Barrackpore. Nine of them were released after first aid, while one was transferred to B.R. Singh Hospital, Sealdah, for further treatment.

The infringing ladder was immediately removed and train services remained normal, said an Eastern Railway release.

An inquiry has been ordered. (IANS)
