National Green Tribunal rubbishes Delhi Police on route plan

New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal censured the Delhi Police on Tuesday owing to the incomplete information it passed on to the tribunal regarding alternate routes for commercial vehicles passing through the city to de-clog the roads.

Further, the tribunal has also asked Delhi Police to hold meetings with senior officials from Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in order to chalk out alternate routes for heavy polluting vehicles.

The issue of contention in the aforesaid case is the incoherent information shared by the police officials during the tribunal's hearing, said Justice Swatanter Kumar, NGT chairperson. The bench has asked the police to submit a complete by Wednesday.

During the hearing the Delhi Police told the tribunal that the new suggested by the National Highways Authority of India ( NHAI) is four lane and is adequate to cater to a traffic of more than 50,000 PCUs.
