Jammu road accident kills 14

Jammu: At least 14 people were killed in Jammu on Tuesday when the mini-bus they were travelling in fell into a gorge, police said.

At least 14 people, including seven women and girl, were injured in the accident in Udhampur district. Seven of those hurt are in a serious condition, police said.

The mini-bus was on its way from Ghordi village to Ramnagar town when it went out of the driver's control and plunged into a gorge in the mountainous area.

"The bodies of 14 passengers killed in this accident have been recovered," a police officer said.

"All the seriously injured passengers have been admitted in the army's northern common hospital in Udhampur town," Deputy Inspector General of Police Surinder Gupta told IANS.

Gupta, District Magistrate Shahid Choudhary and Senior Superintendent of Police Suleiman Salaria have reached the accident spot and are supervising relief and rescue operation.
