Lucknow: The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Kanpur Metro Rail Project was presented to Uttar Pradesh government, an official said on Monday.

The report of the Kanpur metro project, work on which started in March 2015, has been prepared by Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) and the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC), the official said.

The DPR has envisaged two corridors for the project. The first corridor begins from IIT Kanpur spanning up to Naubasta Chauraha and covers 23.785 kms with an elevated stretch of 15.164 km and an underground stretch of 8.621 km.

The second corridor of 8.6 km stretch from Agriculture University to Barra-8 covers an elevated section of 4.19 km and an underground section of 4.41 km.

According to the DPR, Kanpur metro trains will run on standard gauge track and will have a Peak Hour Peak Direction Traffic (PHPDT) of 16,800 passengers by 2021 for the 23.785 km long IIT Kanpur to Naubasta corridor, the official added.

Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) is the nodal agency for preparation of the report of Kanpur metro project.

It was a reflection of the commitment of the government that the DPR was completed in a record seven months, chief secretary of the state Alok Ranjan said.

Kumar Keshav, Managing Director of the LMRC, said a total of 22 metro stations have been planned (14 elevated and eight underground) for the IIT Kanpur to Naubasta corridor while nine stations were proposed for the Agriculture University to Barra-8 corridor.

"Apart from this, parking provision, feeder bus services facility, public bicycle sharing and pedestrian facilities were also proposed at all the stations of the metro," he added.
