New Delhi: In a shocking development, Indian hockey team captain Sardar Singh was accused of sexually harassing his long time girlfriend in a complaint filed at a police station in Ludhiana.

The woman, Ashpal Bhogal a British citizen and a hockey player herself, filed a complaint at the Koom Kalan police station at Sri Bhaini Shaib in Ludhiana on Tuesday against the Indian skipper alleging that he had backed out of their relationship and was refusing to marry her now.

The girl said that she was engaged to Sardar for four years. He mentally and physically harassed her, she alleged.

According to a report, Ashpal who was born in England, was the first British Asian woman to represent England in hockey in 2010 as part of junior women's hockey team and plays club hockey in the Investec Women's Premier League for Beeston hockey club.

The duo had met during the 2012 London Olympics, where India finished last.

This allegation comes as a big setback for the Indian captain who was seen as a motivational and inspirational sportsperson and has set high standards for youngsters. (image: khelnama.com)
