New Delhi: Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister of India, while making a visit to Egypt on August 25, last year, met six Indian seamen who were being held there on the charge of drug-trafficking. And it is known that she did raise the issue with the Egyptian Foreign minister.

These men were en route from UAE to Egypt while being employed on a Greek-owned ship, named Callisto.

In February 2014, the Captain and the rest of the crew were accused of being smugglers and were arrested near the Red Sea resort of Hurghada, Egypt.

The seamen remained jailed for two whole years and were finally released on this Wednesday.

They again met up with Swaraj on their return, as MAE spokesperson, Vikas Swarup tweeted with a picture of them:

"Continuing help to Indians in distress abroad. EAM @SushmaSwaraj meets 6 seamen who have returned from Egypt."

With the help of the government, these people were able to return to India. They thanked the ministry of External affairs to intervene and get all of them safe back to India.(Input from agencies)
