Kolkata, October 16, 2016: The West Bengal and Kolkata Police on Saturday requested people to not pay heed to rumours, asserting the Durga Puja and Muharram passed off peacefully, mirroring the "exemplary" communal harmony in the state.

"Puja and Muharram passed off peacefully with active participation of all the people maintaining Communal Harmony. We express deep gratitude to all.

"The largest festival of Bengal attracting millions of people was a grand reflection of exemplary communal harmony by the people of Bengal. Please do not pay any heed to rumor mongering by mischievous elements," the Kolkata Police said in a series of tweets.

Reiterating the same, the Bengal Police asked people to be cautious against rumours doing the rounds on social networking sites.

"Some elements with ill motive trying to do rumor mongering through different means including social networking sites. Request to be cautious against them," the state police tweeted.
