December 23, 2016: 2016 belongs to Sultan. After the success of Sooraj Barjatya directed 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' and Aditya Chopra Produced 'Sultan', it was not surprising that Salman Khan made it to the top of the Forbes India celebrity 100 List. With an estimated income of Rs. 270.33 crore, Salman Khan replaced Shah Rukh Khan from the top position.
The ranking is based on earnings as well as estimation of fame during the period October 2015 to September 2016.

It seems that Shah Rukh Khan lost his position due to a mixed year in terms of box office success as well as brands endorsement. He secured the 2nd position with an estimated earning of Rs. 221.75 crore. He was in 3rd position in terms of fame.
In the fame ranking, India's Test cricket captain, Virat Kohli, was the most famous celebrity. With Rs. 134.33 crore earnings, Kohli made a leap from 7th position in 2015 to 3rd position in 2016.

Akshay Kumar, with an estimated earning of Rs. 203.03 crore, moved up to Rank 4 on the list. He had great movies like Rustam and Airlift and many endorsements. He had the 11th position in the fame ranking.
Though M.S. Dhoni retired from Test cricket this year, his fame quotient took a shot up this year, reaching 4th position, because of his biopic, 'M.S. Dhoni- An untold story'. With an estimated earning of Rs. 122.48 crore, M.S. Dhoni was ranked 5th.

According to PTI, Joy Chakraborthy, Chief Executive of Forbes India, said that the fifth list of richest 100 celebs in India is based on the evaluation of talent from the entertainment world including Bollywood idols and sports celebrities, thereby creating a truly holistic list.
Magazine Editor Sourav Majumdar said, "Movies and sports are very big businesses and this year's list is also ample evidence of the enormous influence of Bollywood and cricket in the country."
