A tragic road accident between a car and the Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus near Bharatipura Cross in Thirthathalli taluk of Shivamogga district, Karnataka claimed three lives on Wednesday, 14 January 2026. The head-on collision victims were all in the car and included two children, who were returning home after a family wedding from Davanagere at the time of the crash. 

The deceased were identified to be 15-year-old Rihaan, 9-year-old Rahil and 76-year-old Fathima who were residents of Shringeri in Chikkamagaluru district. The other three present in the car sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital. Investigations suggest there were a total of six people in the car. The RTC bus was reportedly traveling from Mangaluru to Raichur. 

The collision wrecked the car and damaged the front portion of the bus as per police, causing disruption of traffic for some time. The Thirthahalli Police have registered a case and started investigating the incident. Further details are awaited in the crash incident as investigation is underway. 

Earlier two road accidents were reported last week which killed six people in the Chitradurga district. One of the incidents was that of a head-on collision of a car with a truck near Hindasakatte village in Hiriyur taluk which claimed the life of four youths. The other incident was a crash between a car travelling from Maharashtra to Bengaluru and a truck near the bridge at Tamatakallu village in Chitradurga district. The accident resulted in the death of two people who were in the car while three other sustained injuries. 

There were even reports of a road accident near Devinagar Camp in Karnataka’s Ballari district last week  which claimed the lives of three members of a family at the spot, leaving two others injured. The accident occurred as a car reportedly lost control and hit a roadside barrier before overturning.
