Air India Dreamliner Crash: On June 12, more than 240 people were killed when an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India, en route to London’s Gatwick Airport. The aircraft, carrying 242 passengers and crew, plummeted into a medical college hostel during lunch hour, making it the deadliest aviation disaster globally in over a decade. Only one person, a British national of Indian origin seated near an emergency exit, survived the crash.

Authorities confirmed that the dead include both passengers and people on the ground, with identification efforts underway through DNA samples. Among the victims was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Witness accounts and CCTV footage suggest the plane experienced trouble just seconds after departure.

The crash marks the first-ever fatal accident involving the Dreamliner model, which entered commercial service in 2011. Investigations are underway, with Indian aviation authorities, Boeing, GE Aerospace, and international partners involved. Newswise/SP
