ISRO to help ASI prepare maps showing prohibited areas of protected monuments

Archaeological Survey of India with the help of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Survey of India, will soon come up with new maps that will show prohibited/regulated areas of protected monuments/sites.

"Archaeological Survey of India has entrusted the responsibility of preparing the maps showing protected/prohibited/regulated areas of the protected monuments/sites of national importance to Survey of India," said the Union Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge), Dr. Mahesh Sharma and added that ISRO will also help for the preparation of maps.

Archaeological Survey of India has proposed to amend the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment and Validation) Act, 2010 and has started the process of reviewing the Act including provisions on restrictions for construction near the monuments, Sharma said.
