The government is planning to provide 24X7 cheap power to people all across the country, Minister of Power, Piyush Goyal said.

The minister said that this move was possible because the power generation in the year 2014-15 was 22,566 MW as against the set target of 17, 830 MW.

'The states have been asked to prepare action plans (that are) specific to their particular states to ensure provision of 24X7 power to all,' Goyal said at a conference of Power, Renewable Energy and Mines Ministers of states and union territories in Guwahati.

Action plans have already been prepared by Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan and the rest of the states will follow lead by December 15, the minister said.

He urged the state governments to improve tendering mechanism and transparent e-procurement systems to meet the demands of the public and industries.
