Amazon; not just selling goods but running a $1.5 billion web service industry too

A major revelation by Amazon about its web services business has brought it at par with global web giants like Microsoft, Google and IBM, even dwarfing some.

For the first time the company has talked openly about its web services, a topic it avoided discussing till now.

According to the information released by the firm, Amazon web services' business includes $1.5 billion as net sales and $265 million as profits. Amazon web services have over a million customers and counts companies like Dropbox, Spotify, Netflix, and even the CIA as its clients.

One of the main features of Amazon web services, apart from powering websites, is their tool, Amazon Machine Learning. The tools use technology that helps computers to guess human choices. Started in 2006, the web services of Amazon have a market share of 27% as compared to Microsoft's 10%.

CEO and founder Jeff Bezos has called Amazon a $5 billion business that is still accelerating.
