New Delhi/Beijing, An Indian held in China for alleged terror links has been released and is on way home.

External affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said that the Indian has been released.

He said the Indian embassy in Beijing has been working for the Indian national's release and he should be arriving in India shortly.

The Indian was among a group of 20 foreign tourists who were detained in Inner Mongolia province on July 10 for suspected terror links.

Indian officials were given consular access to the Indian before his release.

The Indian was part a group that was on a tour to explore ancient China.
