Artists behind Bengal’s most celebrated festival

Kolkata: A stretch of one kilometer on the banks of River Ganga is the hub of hundred odd artists who work hard throughout the year to give life to Uma (Goddess Durga) and her family.

Kolkata is known for Durga Puja, and every year this small area of Kumartuli in North Kolkata produces more than one lakh idols.

The idols are transported to various places of the world, like United Kingdom, United States of America, Germany and Singapore.

Basudeb Paul, Hirok Das, Kirtimohan Lahiri, Narayan Paul are some of the renowned artists in this area.
