Srinagar: During a marathon event on Sunday, youths in Kashmir University clashed with security forces. The youths displayed Pakistan flags and raised anti-India slogans during the beginning of a much-publicised marathon event attended by some ministers, civilians and police officials.

The angry youths vandalised the stage and attempted to torch a police vehicle after security forces intervened to break the protests. The youths started pelting heavy stones at the security forces inside the university campus which is still going on.

Reinforcements have been rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. The organisers had advertised the event as the first international marathon in Srinagar and participation was open to everyone.

Arrangements had been made for on-the-spot registration of youths who intended to participate in the event.
