London: A Japanese national has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shoved a Muslim woman into the side of an oncoming London Underground train.

The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed at Piccadilly Circus station on a Bakerloo line platform at around 4 pm on Tuesday wherein the 81-year-old man, Yoshiyuki Shinohara, can be seen standing behind the Muslim woman as she awaits the train.

As soon as the tube train arrives, Shinohara pushes her into the side of it. As a result, the victim slams into the train before rebounding onto the platform while commuters rush to help her.

According to police, the woman escaped with minor injuries following the incident, The Independent reported.

Shinohara appeared at Westminster Magistrates' court on Thursday charged with attempted murder and was remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Blackfriars Crown Court on November 25.
