New Delhi: Despite the Centre and the local government getting together and expressing true spirit of federal cooperation, the overwhelming response received by the 'Swachh Delhi' app points out to the atrocious condition of sanitation in the capital.

Notably, the app, since its launch last week, received around 13,400 sanitation related grievances with maximum complaints coming from areas under South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Assuring of speedy redressal of the complaints, a senior official said, the grievances had already been forwarded to the local bodies for actions.

Out of all the urban local bodies, maximum complaints came from South Delhi Municipal Corporation(4,400) followed by North Corporation (3,200)and East Corporation (2,600). PWD received 1,700 and New Delhi Municipal Council (130) and Delhi Cantonment Board (43).

Reportedly, over 1,500 trash complaints were also received where people had mostly sent their selfies. Duplication of complaints was also an issue.

Despite a few glitches at the initial level, all technical issues were sorted. Over 60,000 users had downloaded the app.

The app might unearth the poor sanitation condition of Delhi, but it also shows the initiative of the government to clean Delhi.

Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu flagged off the 'Swachh Delhi Abhiyan' in the presence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi on Sunday. Naidu emphasised on the role of local bodies for carrying out actual governance in a federal structure. Kejriwal disbursed the Rs 96.7 crore cheque which Naidu gave him for the programme. He stated that building a cleaner Delhi needs no rocket science.

However, the initiative was a rare occasion where the two stalwarts from rival parties set aside their bitter rivalries and got united for a noble cause.

The app can be used by giving a call on 7666400400.

Callers get a link on their mobile through which they can download the app. A unique feature of the mobile application is that photograph of the debris or garbage can be clicked through it.
