New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party government's decision to hike the salaries of Delhi MLAs and ministers by a whopping 400 per cent has drawn flak from various quarters with some questioning the apparent "hypocrisy" of the fledgling outfit that claims to represent the interest of the common man.

The Member of Legislative Assembly of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Salaries, Allowances, Pensions, etc) (Amendment Bill) tabled in Delhi Assembly on Thursday proposes the hike from the present Rs 88,000 to over Rs 2 lakh per month – a 400 per cent increase.

This includes all claimed allowances. The amendment bill for ministers proposes an increase from Rs 70,000 to Rs 2.75 lakh per month.

'Delhi MLAs' began trending on Twitter after people took to social media to express their 'shock and disappointment' about the salary hike.

Some even reminded Kejriwal of his 2012 tweet wherein he had slammed political parties for increasing salaries "in just five minutes".
