New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday suspended senior Delhi bureaucrat Sanjay Pratap Singh after he was detained by Central Bureau of Investigation in a bribery case.

The 1984 batch Indian Administrative Service officer is the Principal Secretary of the Department of Welfare of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and Minorities in the Delhi government.

Singh had allegedly demanded Rs 2.2 lakh from the complainant who provided security guards and subordinate staff to the department. He had allegedly sought the bribe to clear the firm's monthly bills. The owner of the firm, who also works as an AAP volunteer in East Delhi, had lodged a complaint with the CBI.

The Principal Secretary asked the complainant to hand over the amount to his personal assistant Ramesh Kumar.

The complainant approached Delhi chief minister in this regard and thereafter decided to set up a trap to catch the official in flagrante delicto with the help of CBI. A CBI team, which had been tailing Kumar, caught him and Singh red-handed, said sources.

Notably, the Aam Admi Party and its government claim to have zero tolerance towards corruption. One of the party's senior-most officers was also fired recently for alleged involvement in corruption.
