New Delhi, July 31, 2017: Everyone is curious to know what Google will name its Android 8 version. Usually, they come up with dessert names. So what will be Android O called?

We have observed that Google has replaced the Easter Egg image in the latest preview of Android O developer, and now an Octopus can be seen. The image of this Octopus was also discussed in Reddit AMA, where Google engineers were showing Android Developer Preview 4.0, this is the final beta build before the stable build gets rolled out.

Earlier this Easter egg showed up till the actual name of the OS is revealed, but the Octopus image showing now has left people bewildered. For those of you wondering where the Octopus image is appearing, for that, you have to tap on the Android version in your phone's settings, and following a couple of taps, the Octopus image should appear.

Traditionally Google has chosen naming Android after a dessert, but will Android 8 mark a change in the ongoing trend? Or does the Octopus image some kind of distraction? Indicating the dessert name thing will keep on continuing. We'll only know the truth once Google reveals the actual name of Android O, for which we will have to wait few more months.

Dave Burke, VP of Engineering, Google, wrote a blog post, announced the release of Android O Developer Preview 4.0 and confirmed that mobile OS will be launching later this summer, which is around August-September time frame. For those of you wondering how they can download Android O on their smartphones, this will not be a good news for all as the public beta is limited to only Pixel and Nexus smartphones. The users will have to go to the Android beta website and register for the same.

Warning: Before installing Android O beta version, don't forget to do a data backup so you don't lose any important information or apps when switching to the new OS.

Android O seems to be a promising affair having improved battery performance, notifications, and more.
