The 100% eco-friendly and cost-effective slippers were made for the first time in India and will be marketed by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) beginning January 14 for use by temple worshippers and workers.

These slippers will be offered at the Khadi sales store in the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor's parking lot. The handcrafted paper slippers will be available for Rs 50 per pair.

According to a statement released by the temple management, the move came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed jute slippers to Kashi Vishwanath temple workers after learning that the majority of those working at the shrine did so barefoot.

On the temple grounds, wearing leather or rubber footwear is prohibited.According to KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena, wearing and throwing handmade paper slippers would preserve the temple's holiness while also protecting pilgrims from the heat and cold during inclement weather. These slippers will also avoid pollution because they are constructed of natural fibres.

"The temple's holiness will be preserved by these handcrafted paper slippers. The slippers are composed entirely of environmentally safe materials. The temple's use of these slippers would also provide long-term employment for Khadi craftsmen "Added he.
