Russel Brand, British comedian and TV personality, was convicted of rape and sexual assault involving four women between 2004 and 2009. The jury found him guilty of abusing his celebrity status to manipulate victims, marking the end of a three-year investigation. Brand denied the charges, claiming the encounters were consensual, and is set to be sentenced on November 9, 2026.
BRITISH COMEDIAN AND TELEVISION FAME, Russel Brand was found guilty of rape and three counts of sexual assault by a jury at the Southwark Crown Court in London, on November 5, 2026, following a trial over the allegations raised by six women between 1999 and 2009.
The Jury ruled on November 5, and convicted Brand of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving four women. He was acquitted of two rape counts and one count of attempted indecent assault.
Based on the publicly made comments by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the offences against Brand were incidents that took place between 2004 and 2009. The incidents involved abuse of one’s power and celebrity status, with the survivors pointing out the tendencies in Brand to use his professional position to manipulate women.

The case verdict marks a conclusion to the criminal investigation that began in 2023, in which the Metropolitan Police gathered the accounts of more than 100 witnesses.
Brand, however, has denied all the charges and allegations, and is set to be sentenced this coming Monday, on November 9, 2026.
The jury at the Southwark Crown Court — comprising eight men and four women — deliberated on the allegations leveled against Brand for around eight hours and 30 minutes over two days before he was convicted. The verdict came on November 5, 2026.
The 51-year old celebrity faced seven charges concerning six women, including three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault. Finally, he was convicted of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. Furthermore, he was acquitted of two counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault.
Brand, however, denied all the charges, and claimed throughout that the sexual encounters had been consensual.
According to the Guardian, and other news outlets such as the New York Times, who reported the trial on-ground, Brand testified that he had been obsessed with sex during his younger years, and even led a promiscuous lifestyle. He was also engaged in treatment for his aggressive sexual tendencies — an anecdote, which he mentioned in his autobiography, “My Booky Wook.”
He also reportedly stated that he had allowed his celebrity status to facilitate sexual access. “As I became more successful and famous I was very comfortable allowing that to facilitate sexual access, which I agree with you was wrong,” Brand said, reported The Washington Post.
On the prosecution’s end was Riel Karmy-Jones KC, who described Brand as a manipulative sexual predator who allegedly used his growing celebrity status to pursue women.
David Roberts, a senior crown prosecutor in the CPS London Rape and Serious Sexual Assault Unit, said to the press that Brand had committed the crimes regardless of the women’s consent.
The women had independently approached the police with the allegations against Brand in September 2023, after a television investigation was broadcast. They raised the instances of sexual abuse and rape that took place between 1999 and 2009.
Of these allegations, he was found guilty of four offences, and not guilty of three.
With a trigger-warning in place for the readers, the offences for which he is convicted include: the 2004 London bar incident where he had sexually assaulted a woman by grabbing her breasts; the incident at Choice FM studious in London, where he had grabbed and inappropriately touched and kissed a woman in 2004 or 2005; the incident at Hammersmith, where he raped a woman at his home after a comedy show in 2009; and the incident during his work with Channel 4 in 2009, where he touched another woman inappropriately and assaulted her.
Russel Brand was born in Grays, Essex, in June 1975. He was raised by his mother, Barbaba, following the separation of his parents when he was six months old.
His engagement with the spotlight and performances began during his school years, with his appearance in a school stage production of Bugsy Malone — a famous musical released in 1976.
At the age of 16, he enrolled at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London, but was expelled within a year due to drug abuse and poor attendance.
Subsequently, Brand pursued stand-up comedy and ran errands into the entertainment industry with MTV and other channels.
Throughout his foray into the industry, he was severely affected by drug abuse and was dismissed from work multiple times on the account of his addiction.
He rose to fame with the Channel 4’s famous reality show, Big Brother's Big Mouth, and made a name with his flamboyant presence, humour and outspoken personality.
In 2007, he published his memoir, The Booky Wook, which became a bestseller and also received the biography award at the British Book Awards in 2008.
He had married American singer Katy Perry, in Rajasthan, India, but fell apart just a year later. Later, he married Laura Gallacher in 2017, and they have three children.
